Dennis Helfer and Elaine Helfer are the parents of Helfer. Her parents are of German, English, Swedish and Norwegian descent. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School situated in Stettler. Alongside the help of her sisters Trena Tammy Tara she resided as a farm worker on the farm owned by her family. An agent scout spotted Helfer aged 17 while she was standing in line for a movie.
